Mon Mar 20 12:52:05 2017  spodkowinski:sedulam: have you looked at README.md in said directory?
Mon Mar 20 12:54:08 2017  sedulam:You're right I didn't. I just assumed with the extension .md that it was some source that would be later used to produce the final documentation (by the Makefile), so didn't even tried to open it with notepad because the extension was not recognised. I just did and it works, so I'll go from there. Thanks and sorry

Mon Mar 20 18:11:16 2017  jeffj:those are all > 13000, which means recent discoveries. which means there's probably a ton of others in the 12000-13000 range i dont remember off the top of my head

Mon Mar 20 18:12:31 2017  urandom:jeffj: yeah, hrmmm
Mon Mar 20 18:13:26 2017  urandom:jeffj: we're working on a remodel, and contemplating a decommision of just enough nodes to setup another cluster, and then migrate use-cases one-by-one
Mon Mar 20 18:13:38 2017  jeffj:worth noting an awful lot of those are upgrade bugs
Mon Mar 20 18:13:43 2017  jeffj:if you're doing a brand new cluster, maybe it's fine
Mon Mar 20 18:13:49 2017  urandom:decommisioning from one cluster, and then bootstrapping into the other as we go
Mon Mar 20 18:13:49 2017  jeffj:or maybe it's awful and nobody's tested that yet.
Mon Mar 20 18:14:05 2017  urandom:the problem is, upgrades are almost a non-starter for me at this point
Mon Mar 20 18:14:15 2017  urandom:way too damn painful
Mon Mar 20 18:14:43 2017  urandom:and i don't really have the luxury of setting up a new cluster, and migrating, as so many do
Mon Mar 20 18:15:19 2017  urandom:even this plan involving the yak shaving decomm/bootstrap dance will probably not be an option moving forward
Mon Mar 20 18:16:07 2017  urandom:so it's possible this is our chance to get on 3.x
Mon Mar 20 18:16:29 2017  urandom:there is serious talk of just staying on 2.2 forever, and seeing how bad the bitrot gets
Mon Mar 20 18:16:35 2017  urandom:crossing that bridge when we come to it
Mon Mar 20 18:20:17 2017  urandom:what i really want is #6696, and maybe #11206
Mon Mar 20 18:20:17 2017  CassBotJr:https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-11206 (Resolved; Fixed; 3.6): "Support large partitions on the 3.0 sstable format"

Mon Mar 20 18:20:42 2017  jeffj:11206 requires going all the way to 3.6 though, so really 3.11
Mon Mar 20 18:21:14 2017  urandom:so really 3.11?
Mon Mar 20 18:21:25 2017  jeffj:well you dont want 3.6 i imagine
Mon Mar 20 18:21:29 2017  jeffj:maybe you do
Mon Mar 20 18:21:32 2017  urandom:¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mon Mar 20 18:21:43 2017  urandom:i'm sure 3.11 fixes regressions in 3.6
Mon Mar 20 18:21:45 2017  jeffj:instacluster is maintaining a 3.7 lts which is 3.7 + backports, maybe that's an option for you
Mon Mar 20 18:21:49 2017  urandom:and that it introduces some :)
Mon Mar 20 18:21:53 2017  jeffj:right
Mon Mar 20 18:22:01 2017  jeffj:guess newest is 3.10 anyway not 3.11
Mon Mar 20 18:22:36 2017  urandom:oh yeah, the instacluster lts, i almost forgot about that
Mon Mar 20 18:25:45 2017  urandom:i guess there must be some non-trivial uses of that too, (otherwise why bother maintaining it)
Mon Mar 20 18:28:32 2017  jeffj:again though, 11:13 < jeffj> if you're doing a brand new cluster, maybe it's fine
Mon Mar 20 18:28:42 2017  jeffj:all the bugs i can think of are 3.0 reading 2.1 sstables or upgrading 2.1 sstables
