Mon Nov 21 04:28:39 2016  grover77777:I don't know, is this an appropriate place to ask a question regarding Maven usage for a maven plugin? Specifically, a plugin is designed with a deployment goal, used in builds, to deploy to a test server... and uploads artifact to Nexus. After approval, I want to use a dependency of the artifact already generated in a dev environment, and use the same deployment goal to deploy to production, without rebuilding the artifact, and witho
Mon Nov 21 04:28:39 2016  grover77777:ut recreating the deployment process, which doesn't make sense to do. Doesn't really seem possible without modifications to plugin. It is mule-maven-plugin.
Mon Nov 21 04:29:36 2016  grover77777:https://docs.mulesoft.com/mule-user-guide/v/3.7/mule-maven-plugin
Mon Nov 21 04:31:56 2016  grover77777:I have the same issue come up with other artifacts for maven as well, where it creates an artifact, uploads to repository, and deploys to server... but I want to only download the pre-made artifact in Nexus and deploy it in "upper" environments... without rebuilding a new artifact... Maven doesn't really seemed to be built for this... or maybe I have it wrong?

Mon Nov 21 05:20:52 2016  fredcooke:grover77777: using maven to build, publish, and deploy to the initial env makes perfect sense. After that your artefacts are in two places, nexus, and the first env.
Mon Nov 21 05:20:54 2016  fredcooke:The natural choices are to propagate the artefacts from one of those sources to the next env, usually with an external agent that does some QC on the first env post deploy, perhaps Jenkins or similar.'';'
Mon Nov 21 05:21:05 2016  fredcooke:oops, the quotes and semi colon were not welcome
Mon Nov 21 05:30:33 2016  grover77777:yup, have Bamboo doing QC, and manual QC on first environment. Then just want to use the same maven-plugin:deploy goal that was used from the first environment to deploy to the next environment... I see that an old version of the plugin did just that: https://github.com/mulesoft/cloudhub-maven-plugin
Mon Nov 21 05:30:37 2016  grover77777:with this command: $mvn cloudhub:deploy -Dcloudhub.username=username -Dcloudhub.password=password -Dcloudhub.domain=testdomain -Dapplication=/path/to/app.zip -Dcloudhub.muleVersion=3.6.0
Mon Nov 21 05:31:09 2016  grover77777:it doesn't make sense to reinvent the wheel when the plugin already does the deployment
Mon Nov 21 05:31:51 2016  grover77777:I'm hoping I can modify that to the mule-maven-plugin and do the same concept.. I'm going to try that tomorrow
Mon Nov 21 05:33:05 2016  grover77777:at this point, I just want Bamboo to download the artifact rather than rebuild it, to deploy it.
Mon Nov 21 05:33:22 2016  grover77777:I'll see what I find tomorrow when I play with it more... thanks

Mon Nov 21 05:56:52 2016  fredcooke:grover77777: sounds like you're on the right track. rebuilding it would break so many golden principals, you're right to want to avoid that. Using maven as the tool is fine, but not necessarily in the context of the original source.

Mon Nov 21 21:33:03 2016  buremba:Is there any way to enforce Maven to use custom repository before central repository when resolving dependencies?
Mon Nov 21 21:34:24 2016  buremba:There is a package called com.test.mycompany in both central repository and in our private maven repository, even if I add our private repository in <repositories> tag, Maven tries the central repository.
Mon Nov 21 21:34:50 2016  buremba:I couldn't make it work with our private repository.
Mon Nov 21 21:38:08 2016  njuneau:buremba: One way is to proxy all request going to central through your private repo
Mon Nov 21 21:38:19 2016  njuneau:buremba: But your private repo has to proxy central
Mon Nov 21 21:39:03 2016  njuneau:buremba: Then it's the job of your private repo to determine the order. Because I don't think there is a way to enforce a certain resolve route for the maven client
Mon Nov 21 21:39:13 2016  buremba:njuneau: Oh, we use Travis for tests so proxying may not be possible.
Mon Nov 21 21:39:49 2016  njuneau:buremba: The proxy may not necessarily be done on the network, you can define a mirror from the settings.xml
Mon Nov 21 21:40:14 2016  njuneau:buremba: But then, like I said, your mirror, which acts as a proxy for all artifact resolution requests, has to proxy central itself
Mon Nov 21 21:41:37 2016  buremba:njuneau: so if Maven can't find the dependency in our custom repo, it won't be able to try the central repo, right?
Mon Nov 21 21:41:42 2016  buremba:We use Bintray
Mon Nov 21 21:41:54 2016  buremba:Let me check if they support proxying
Mon Nov 21 21:43:19 2016  njuneau:buremba: you would have to configure your mirror for that - I'm not sure it's possible.
Mon Nov 21 21:44:17 2016  njuneau:buremba: Because if you use your private repo as a mirror, you could possibly prioritize your private assets over central, but I don't know if you can say "don't fetch elsewhere"
Mon Nov 21 21:45:04 2016  buremba:njuneau: I actually expect Maven to try the repositories in <repositories> tag and then the central one but it doesn't seem to be working
Mon Nov 21 21:46:12 2016  buremba:njuneau: Bintray doesn't seem to support that feature. :/

Mon Nov 21 21:47:01 2016  buremba:https://dl.bintray.com/buremba/maven/com/facebook/presto/presto-main/
Mon Nov 21 21:47:16 2016  buremba:The repository that we use is not actually private btw.

Mon Nov 21 22:48:09 2016  buremba:tang^, njuneau: I managed to solve the problem using custom settings.xml https://github.com/rakam-io/rakam/blob/master/.travis_settings.xml
Mon Nov 21 22:49:18 2016  buremba:It seems that Maven tries the repositories in auto activated profiles and then fallbacks to central repository if it can't find the repo in specified repository.
Mon Nov 21 22:50:26 2016  buremba:However it takes much more time to resolve the dependencies because it has to check whether the dependency in our custom repo or not. https://api.travis-ci.org/jobs/177806663/log.txt?deansi=true
